Funeral regulations: what will change for professionals in 2026

Increased information for families, publication of prices on the Internet… Several changes directly affect funeral operators.
Here are the main measures to know and the solutions proposed by the FFPF to support professionals.

Information for families: new obligations from October 1, 2026

From October 1, 2026, all funeral operators — companies, associations and authorized authorities — will have to provide families with a standardized information notice.
Identical for all professionals, it will notably remind them of:
• the freedom to choose one's funeral home;
• the free and non-binding nature of the quote;
• the distinction between mandatory, optional or required benefits under certain circumstances;
• the main rules relating to the transport and preservation of the body, burial, cremation and the disposition of ashes;
• possible legal recourse in case of a dispute.

This notice must remain completely neutral: no company name, logo or advertising message may appear on it.
It must be made available in the establishment, displayed in a visible and legible manner from the outside and published in an easily accessible manner from the home page of the operator's website, if it has one.
General pricing documentation must also be published online. It must clearly distinguish between mandatory and non-mandatory services and specify those that only become mandatory depending on the circumstances.
Companies must therefore verify the consistency of the information presented in their agency, on their website, in their sales documentation and in their quotes and purchase orders.
These obligations stem from the decree of August 13, 2026, relating to consumer information and its implementing decree.

Other developments to note

The requirements for obtaining the funeral advisor diploma changed on January 1, 2026. Companies that recruit or support an employee in training must take these new examination conditions into account.
